Ryobi cordless hedge trimmers recalled due to laceration hazard

WASHINGTON - Approximately 113,000 RYOBI 40-Volt 24-Inch Cordless Hedge Trimmers have been recalled by TTI Outdoor Power Equipment due to a laceration hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced today. An additional 15,000 units were sold in Canada.
The hedge trimmer blade can unexpectedly activate if only the safety or trigger control is pressed individually, rather than requiring both controls to be engaged simultaneously. This defect poses a risk of serious lacerations to users.
TTI Outdoor Power Equipment has received 27 reports of the blade activating unexpectedly, resulting in 16 reported injuries ranging from minor to severe lacerations.
The recall involves RYOBI 40V 24-Inch Cordless Hedge Trimmers with model numbers RY40620VNM, RY40602VNM, and RY40602BTLVNM. Affected units have serial numbers within the ranges LT21091D180001 - LT22365D060025 and RG23125N250001 - RG24252D101110. The model and serial numbers can be found on a data plate located on the bottom of the trimmer.
