Village of Poland receives $650,000 for installation of new crosswalks, sidewalks

POLAND, Ohio - The Village of Poland has received $650,000 from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for the installation of high-visibility crosswalks at several intersections, as well as new sidewalks in the village.
Work on the project is expected to happen in 2028 and will consist of the installation of high-visibility crosswalks at 10 signalized intersections, as well as new sidewalks on several streets including College Street, Lee Drive and Michigan Avenue.
This funding comes from a $7.6 million investment in infrastructure and education from ODOT's Safe Routes to School program in an effort to improve safety for students who walk or ride their bikes to school.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is quoted in a press release saying these funds will help ensure more students have safe and accessible options to get to school.
"These are more than just transportation projects. They are investments in the health, safety and future of our children," DeWine said.
ODOT Director Pamela Boratyn is also quoted saying walking or biking to school is a simple yet powerful way to promote healthier kids, safer neighborhoods and more connected communities.
"Safe Routes to School is a key part of ODOT's broader commitment to active transportation, helping communities thrive by supporting safer streets and encouraging daily physical activity among our youngest citizens," Boratyn said.
