The suspect of a police shootout in 2023 has pled not guilty.

21-year old Davonte McElroy of Warren is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of tampering with evidence.

McElroy's bond was set at $500,000 and he along with his public defender approved a speedy trial time waiver of 90 days.

The next pre-trial is set for August 6.

The charges stem from a shooting that occurred near the corner of Austin Avenue and Ward Street in October of 2023 where police say two detectives were driving in the area and a man in a black mask and red hood ran down a driveway and fired several shots at them.

Police later obtained a search warrant of the house where the incident happened and found the mask and hood on the kitchen floor.

McElroy had been on the run since the shooting until he was arrested on May 16, 2025 in a parking lot near Homewood Avenue and Youngstown Road SE in Warren.
