BBB Warning About Planet Aid Boxes
You may have seen the yellow Planet Aid clothing donation boxes around the valley. The Better Business Bureau and Goodwill industries want people to know that the donations don't stay here in the valley. The bureau says the goods are sold in stores in the U.S. and Europe... with the proceeds going to Africa, Asia and Central America. Planet Aid did not meet three BBB Standards, including spending at least 65% of its total expenses on program activities. Spending should be no more than 35% of contributions on fundraising. And to accurately report the charity's expenses. In response, a Planet Aid spokesman says the charity never hides the fact that donations are distributed world wide, and that collecting and recycling clothing is more expensive than taking only monetary donations.
