YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown Public Works and Economic Development officials want to know how to best help visitors get around in the city.
"It's really become more and more apparent that we really lack uniform way fare signing downtown," said Kolt Codner of the Public Works Department.
So the city is using an online video survey, made free of charge by Youngstown Incubator business Via 680, to show the public some new ideas like color-coding different zones of the city or using stand-alone signs.
"Just something to make it easier not only for vehicles driving through but also for pedestrian traffic," explained Director of Downtown Events Lyndsey Hughes.
The survey borrows ideas from other cities, and uses technology to show how they would help visitors navigate downtown Youngstown.
"Especially for people coming in from the suburbs, coming downtown that really aren't necessarily familiar with it," said Codner. "There's a lot of challenges with simply finding parking and finding out where things are."
Officials with the visitor's bureau, who are planning a large downtown festival next month, say the project will be a welcome sign to visitors.
"They're going to be more comfortable, they're going to know where to go," said Phil Moore, director of the Mahoning County Convention and Visitors' Bureau. "The key thing is parking, being able to find parking."
The survey is available until July 1st. You can find it here.
