Ohio Secretary Of State on House Bill 194

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Ohio's Secretary of State is defending a newly signed elections law that critics are signing petitions to try to get on the November 2012 ballot.

Secretary of State John Husted says House Bill 194 is needed to set uniform standards in all 88 counties, mainly for early voting.  Also he says it makes registering and changing contact information available online.

"One of the problems that we've had is we've had some counties voting by one set of standards and others by different and that undermines the confidence in the system," he said.

Last week a Trumbull County Democratic Party volunteer said the law hurts seniors, women, and working people who can't leave in the middle of the day to vote because it reduces the time for absentee voting and eliminates the weekend.
