San Francisco 49ers visit Akron Children's Hospital and the Boys & Girls Club

BOARDMAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio - The San Francisco 49ers are in town and on Monday the team made a special trip to Akron Children's of the Mahoning Valley.

The entire offense visited with patients at the hospital. They dished out ice cream sundaes, and rocked newborns in the nursery.

"It's really a blessing, a privilege, and an honor for us to be here," said head coach, Jim Harbaugh. "We're getting a lot out of it ourselves."

"It's great to be back home and to get out here and see these kids," said Alex Boone, a former Ohio State player. "It's good for our team to be here and see this. A lot of people didn't really know this was here in Ohio, so it's good to show them all this stuff."

The other half of the team spent time at the Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown.

49ers Co-chair Dr. John York said, "You should be proud of your home. We are and these guys get to come back and they get a taste of the Bay Area and now they get a little taste of Youngstown and some of the food and activities that go along here too."

Last year, the 49ers did nearly 500 hours of community service at 48 events.
