Valley State Senator wants to regulate Internet Cafes

Updated:

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Senate will hear sponsor testimony regarding proposed laws that would regulate Internet Cafe's.

State Senator Joe Schiavoni says they should have regulations to follow like other businesses. Schiavoni also adds the odds of winning should be posted so people know they're playing a sweepstakes.

The State Senator says many people think they're really playing a slot machine, but it's just a computer screen with software that looks like a slot machine that's already predetermined whether or not you've won.

He says it's not an individual chance every time like it is with a true slot machine.

Schiavoni says he is not against the businesses, but he adds if the state is going to have four casinos and seven race tracks regulated by the state why shouldn't the Internet Cafe's be regulated.

He says it's like opening a bar without a liquor license.

Schivaoni adds you can't just open a gambling joint anywhere you want, have people come in, and figure out on your own the pay out. It's going to be regulated.

Senator Schivaoni says the proposed legislation would also allow townships and cities to allow or block the Internet Cafe's.
