Angels For Kids makes a difference for those in need

Updated:

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Because the first day of school sets the tone for the rest of the school year, Angels for Kids wanted to help local students get a big self-esteem boost.

They helped 20 young girls get free haircuts, school supplies and new outfits. Casal Aveda in Austintown provided the haircuts.

Shanyn Flesch, Angels for Kids founder, says "Angels for Kids Foundation is a non-profit organization that focuses on improving the lives and self esteem of children in need, children facing unfortunate circumstances. Some are homeless, some in transitional housing units. They are all going back to school. They all need a boost in self esteem."

Many of the girls come from families who struggle to make ends meet. So when they get a day of pampering it's something that is really special.

Sister Jean Orsuto of the Emmanuel Community Center says Angels has helped a lot of children. "When you see them come in they are in need of a haircut. When they get finished, they're walking around flipping their hair. They're standing a little straighter, smiling a bit more. I think they go off to school with a bit more confidence too. It's a hard thing for children who don't always have the nice clothes," Orsuto said.

Angels for Kids gets its funding through private donations.
