Annual Coats for Kids giveaway in Warren

WARREN, Ohio - Thousands of free coats will be passed in Warren on Saturday.

The annual Coats for Kids giveaway will take place at the North-Mar Church in Warren.

Each child will receive two coats, one new and one gently used.

"I can remember when my rent was $400 a month," said Warren Council President Bob Dean. "If I had three kids and these coats are $135 or $140 a piece, I might have to make a choice as to whether or not my child has a coat or we pay the rent."

The giveaway is open to anyone. There are no stipulations.

Doors open at 10 a.m. and close at 3 p.m. Coats will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

    State Route 11 is getting a facelift in Columbiana County. The Ohio Department of Transportation began microsurfacing and chip sealing six miles of State Route 11 on Monday morning.  The area between Lisbon/SR 154 Exit and the Columbiana Leetonia/SR 558 Exit will be subject to the preservation treatments.  According to ODOT, microsurfacing and chip sealing treatments lower cost of road maintenance in the long term, allowing them to resurface more roads with the savings.

    A Warren man will spend the next two years in prison for sex crimes involving an 11-year-old victim. Joshua Rodgers, 33, was convicted on two counts of gross sexual imposition in Trumbull County Common Pleas court. Relatives of the victim tell 21 News they're happy with the sentencing outcome.
