Two Steubenville football players will stand trial for alleged rape of 16-year-old girl
STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Two high school football players from Steubenville, Ohio are accused of raping a 16-year-old girl last summer.
A chilling video and disturbing pictures of the assault have been posted online. They show a group of teenage boys taking part in the gang rape then laughingly describing it in joking terms.
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says justice needs to prevail in this case.
"This case needs to be tried, not in the media, not in the social media, but in court in front of the judge and it will be on February 13th. That's the way our system works. That's the way it should work. I think the second thing that is obvious; any rape case is a great tragedy. This one is different only in the sense that the victim has been victimized, but each time something goes up on the internet the victim is victimized again," DeWine said.
DeWine won't say whether anyone else is facing charges in the case. But he does say investigators are still following up on leads.
