YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - By August, as long as things go as planned, teens across the country will have another resource available to help them through some of their darkest times.

"I suspect that every organization that works with teenagers and every parent of a teenager knows two things. One is that they are doing a lot of this; they are doing a lot of texting. That is their primary way of communicating and two, they know that teens are suffering from all kinds of things from bullying, eating disorders, abuse, addiction. So we are putting those two things together and giving them help by text at their fingertips 24/7," said Nancy Lublin with Crisis Text Line.

The Crisis Text Line should launch just in time for back to school. The idea behind it is that teens can text their problems to trained counselors who, within 15 minutes of receiving the message, will be able to respond with professional advice and referrals.

"You could be sitting at a lunch table in the cafeteria being bullied and you could be texting for help while it is happening and no one would know around you," Lublin said.

The Crisis Text Line is still just an idea. However, J.C. Penny stores nationwide have stepped in to help get the program up and running. Throughout the month of March, shoppers will be able to round up their total bill. The money collected will be donated to Crisis Text Line.

"We are so blessed and grateful that J. C. Penny is validating us this way and helping us get these funds," Lublin said.

Once a person texts the crisis line, their cell phone number will be captured. That will allow counselors to make follow up contact with the teen to make sure he or she received help.
