YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Mahoning County Jail will fully reopen after half of the building was closed for nearly three years.

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene said the remaining 57 beds will become available April 7th. In addition, Greene said that seven new deputies have been hired for the jail.

Greene also said that he plans to institute a number of programs to generate funding for the jail including a cost for sex offender registration, a $40 jail and reception fee for new inmates and a processing fee for criminal background checks.

Portions of the jail had originally closed in response to budget cuts.
