Hubbard school district plans construction improvements

Posted: Updated:

HUBBARD, Ohio - A construction project due to be ready in time for kick off this fall includes adding restrooms, a spirit shop and a shelter for the 200-member high school band at the football stadium.

This project is the next step in the district's effort to enhance the K through 12 campus.

"It opens up the stadium for almost 24 hours a day, seven days a week if we want to use it. The little leaguers will use it. Our soccer team will use it. Our football teams will use it. It's a needed and great thing for our community," says Richard Buchenic, Hubbard superintendent.

At the track on Hall Avenue, the district is ready to spend so they can spruce up the baseball and softball fields.

Potential bidders on the project took a tour of the sites to better prepare their most accurate bids due April 8.

The district is looking for the most affordable option and plans to install turf.

"I know football should be played on a wet field and grass and mud and things like that, but the future is turf and we're just taking a look at that," Buchenic says.

This fall, the varsity Hubbard Exempted Village Schools varsity football team will host seven games at home.

Buchenic says artificial turf is attractive because it will put his school in the running for hosting playoffs.

"After the first round in the playoffs, the games have to be played turf, so we're hopefully we can host some playoff games here," he says.
