1 dead, 1 injured in Youngstown shooting

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Police are investigating a shooting that left one dead and one injured on Youngstown's east side.

Robert Joseph Vanderpool, 37, of 3337 Loveland Dr. was killed Sunday morning after a shooting.

According to a police report, Robert Vanderpool's mother, 76-year-old Rosemary Vanderpool, said she heard her son at the front door around midnight . He had reportedly been screaming, "I'm dying mom."

When Rosemary Vanderpool opened the door she quickly slammed it, which followed by a gunshot that went through the door and struck her in the leg. After talking with police, she was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment.

Police found Robert Vanderpool slumped over on the front porch with a bullet wound in the upper part of his left shoulder. A casing was also found on the porch. 

During a search of the home, police found two marijuana plants in the home as well.

No suspects have been identified in the shooting.
