Boxer Pavlik says brain seizure played role in retirement

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Retired boxer Kelly Pavlik tells Sports Director Dana Balash he suffered a brain seizure in October 2012, that played a role in his decision to hang up the gloves.

"I blackout one afternoon, and the next thing I knew I woke up in the hospital," said Pavlik who officially retired on January 19.
"I went to the doctor and he didn't rule out fighting again, but with this and the cancellation of the Andre Ward fight, I knew it was time," said Pavlik.
Ward and Pavlik were scheduled to fight in January of this year, but the fight was postponed after Ward injured his shoulder during a sparring session.
Pavlik is staying busy, "I'm going a hundred miles an hour with my kids."
The former middleweight champ still wants to open a gym of his own. "I'm looking at the Boardman - Youngstown area. I want to give back to the community and help young kids." said Pavlik.
