Construction detours to impact Niles back-to-school traffic

Posted: Updated:

NILES, Ohio - Construction closing the Robbins Avenue bridge in Niles could create heavy traffic volume when school starts on Monday.

The city has noticed an increase in traffic on Federal Street in front of the high school since the closing.

To help motorists move along, the city is making a few changes at select intersections.

"Adding green time to signals at the intersections of Federal and Main, and Federal and Vienna Avenue, so that should help some of the congestion there," says Mark Hess, Niles engineering and grant coordinator.

Hess expects construction to wrap up in late October.

Exiting the school premises by using E. Madison to get to Main Street is the suggested detour for students and parents.
