Austintown Middle School sale falls through

Posted: Updated:

AUSTINTOWN TWP., Ohio - The Austintown Local School District Board of Education has passed a resolution to rescind the purchase agreement of the former Austintown Middle School to LRC Realty.

According to a news release from the board, the nearly 15-acre property was sold on April 24, 2013. However, LRC Realty decided not to execute the real estate purchase agreement.

According to Vincent Colaluca, Superintendent, "The Board of Education voted today to rescind the purchase agreement after the LRC Realty decision." Colaluca said, "The Board of Education has made several attempts to finalize the situation acting with diligence on behalf of the community." The BOE feels that this resolution is in the best interest of the school district and community.

When the sale was originally announced, some township officials expressed hope that the  property would be developed for commercial purposes.

The release says that the board has had other inquiries about purchasing the property and is still accepting offers.
