Authorities call off search for the day for missing man in Shenango River

Posted: Updated:

TRANSFER, Pa. - Rescue crews have released more information about their search for a man who went missing in the Shenango River Wednesday night.

The victim has been reportedly identified has Eric Metz.

Authorities tell 21 News Metz, his wife and their daughter were in a canoe by the Hamburg bridge when it overturned.

The woman and her daughter made it to shore but Metz did not.

The search resumed at 9 this morning and is now over for the day.

"The state park people at Pymatuning cut the flow down from 500 cubic feet a minute to 70 cubic feet per minute, which helped tremendously. But the water is still dirty, this viability is terrible. You know it's not very deep but you can't see a few inches in front of your face," says Transfer Fire Chief Phillip Steele.
