YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A memorial to Jews persecuted by Nazis has been rededicated on the grounds of the Jewish Community Center in Youngstown.

The JCRC's Holocaust Education and Commemoration Committee, in conjunction with the Jewish Community Center held a ceremony on Monday to rededicate the a Holocaust memorial statue, originally placed on the grounds of Temple Beth Israel in Sharon, Pa.

The memorial, originally dedicated in Sharon in 1999, was conceived and created by then high-school senior and Beth Israel member, Ben Tishman as a project to earn his Eagle Scout honor.

Monday's program recognized the 75th Anniversary of Kristallnacht, the Nazi campaign of destruction of Jewish property, and also paid tribute to U.S. liberators in honor of Veteran's Day.

The night of November 9, 1938 is known as Kristallnacht, or the "Night of Broken Glass."  Nazis ransacked Jewish-owned shops and set fire to synagogues in Germany and Austria.

At least 91 Jews were killed and 26,000 Jewish men were rounded up and taken to concentration camps.
