Sharon school board to consider fund for victims of tragic crash

SHARON, Pa. - The Sharon School Board tonight considers establishing a fund for the victims of a tragic accident in the city.
Two Sharon High School football players, 17-year-old Evan Gill, and 18-year-old Cory Swartz, along with 50-year-old John Zdelar of Brookfield were killed Friday night in a two vehicle head-on crash on East Connelly Boulevard. Two other football team members, and two other children were injured in the crash.
The acting Sharon school superintendent is recommending that the board approve establishment of the "SHS Football Player Fund" to receive donations to be used for medical or funeral expenses of the victims.
The fund would be created through the Shenango Valley Foundation, which falls under the umbrella of the Community Foundation of Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio, which was created to meet the needs of individuals and charitable agencies within the region.
The board is scheduled to meet at 7:00 p.m.
