Ohio State trooper involved in crash following pursuit in Austintown

Posted: Updated:

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - An officer with the Ohio State Highway Patrol sustained minor injuries after his cruiser flipped on its roof during a pursuit on Interstate 76 early Saturday.

The chase began when the trooper attempted to pull over Ronald Spencer, 41, of Canton for a marked lanes violation.

Spencer refused to stop and fled eastbound in a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer, finally stopping after hitting tire deflation devices that were placed on the road by officers.

When the trooper tried to avoid hitting the devices, he lost control of his cruiser, causing it to go off the left side of the road.

The cruiser then rolled over the median and landed on its roof.

The trooper was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Spencer was taken into custody and is in the Summit County jail awaiting charges.
