COLUMBIANA COUNTY, Ohio – On Friday, a former state representative launched an election campaign for Ohio's sixth congressional seat now held by Republican Bill Johnson.

Jennifer Garrison, who served six years in the Ohio House, filed petitions at the Columbiana County Board of Elections.

Garrison says she is running because she thinks Washington is broken and not representing all of the people.

"My goal is to represent everybody. I'm filing as a candidate on the democratic ticket, but I think people send us to D.C. to work together and that would be a lot different than what we have in the current congressman," Garrison said.

The incumbent, Bill Johnson, also filed petitions for re-election on Friday.

Ohio's 6th district covers eighteen counties in southeastern Ohio.
