January Chevy Cruze sales buck tradition

Posted:

DETROIT, Mich. - General Motors says that the Lordstown-made Chevrolet Cruze reported its highest ever January sales.

According to figures released on Monday, GM sold 16,828 Cruze models last month, up 15.9% from the  14,524 sold in January, 2013. However, sales were down seven percent from December.

GM says its overall car and truck sales dropped 12 percent last month.

GM sold more than 248,000 models of the Cruze last year, making it GM's best selling car.

A news release from General Motors says that January is traditionally the car industry's lowest sales month of the year.

GM says that extreme winter weather in the South, Midwest and Northeast further depressed GM and industry sales in last month.
