Local Michaels stores among those exposed to security breach

Posted: Updated:
BOARDMAN, Ohio - Operators of the Michaels Arts and Crafts chain say two of their Valley stores were affected by a security breach.

The retailer reports that outlets in Boardman Township and Niles were among the stores around the nation where about 2.6 million credit cards may have been affected, but a statement from Michaels says they have received only "limited" reports of fraud.

The company said that the stores were attacked by criminals using highly sophisticated malware that had not been encountered previously by the two security firms that were conducting the investigation.

The company  lists the following dates of possible exposure at the two Valley locations:

BOARDMAN
365 Boardman-Canfield Rd Boardman
May 8, 2013 - August 10, 2013
August 30, 2013 - October 7, 2013
October 17, 2013 - November 24, 2013
December 12, 2013 - January 19, 2014

NILES
5555 Youngstown Warren Rd Ste 975 Niles
May 8, 2013 - July 29, 2013

The details come nearly three months after Michaels disclosed that it may have been a victim of a data breach.
