Another member resigns from Port Authority

Posted: Updated:
WARREN, Ohio -
Another resignation from the embattled Western Reserve Port Authority board is turned in, as county commissioners work on a way to dissolve the group.

This time it's board member James Floyd who will be hanging up his hat. Floyd was appointed to the board in June of 2010. The Youngstown attorney submitted his resignation to Trumbull County Commissioners this week.

Commissioner Paul Heltzel says the group is dysfunctional and they're doing everything in their power to dissolve the board.

"That looks like the only real solution we have other than waiting, but I don't think we can afford to wait at this point," Heltzel says. "I think we have to do something to rejuvenate that board."

The port authority oversees economic development projects in the valley and operations at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.

Airport Director Dan Dickten says it's too soon to comment on the board in flux, but did indicate that any change to the Port Authority would impact the airport.

Heltzel says they'll likely face legal hurdles in their efforts to breaking up the board and commissioners are consulting with the prosecutor's office.

Board member Don Hanni The Third has said in recent weeks that he will take any such fight all the way to court if he has to.
