PITTSBURGH, Pa. - U.S. Marshals in Pittsburgh have arrested a suspect in the murder of a resident of a YMHA high rise apartment in Struthers.

40-year-old Roy Cleary was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon at UPMC hospital.

Cleary was wanted for Tuesday's stabbing death of 56-year-old Mark Westfall at the Struthers Manor.

Police say Cleary drove Westfall's SUV to UPMC Horizon in Farrell and then Cleary was taken by ambulance to the Pittsburgh hospital.

Cleary told police that he checked himself into the hospital to receive a shoulder operation because an old shoulder injury was aggravated.

U.S. Marshals, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents and Southwest Regional Police officers found Westfall's SUV at the Farrell hospital Wednesday night.

Cleary had been living with his mother at Struthers Manor and the two men were friends. Police do not yet know the motive.

A judge in Struthers municipal court issued a warrant for Cleary's arrest on Tuesday, charging him with murder and theft.

A maintenance man found the body on Tuesday after he went to Westfall's apartment to check on his welfare. Westfall had not been seen since Sunday.

Authorities say Westfall was stabbed several times in the back, abdomen, neck, and arms.

Cleary remains at the Allegheny County Jail. The extradition process will begin Thursday.

Late Wednesday, Westfall's son Chad issued a statement on behalf of his family:

We are deeply saddened from the untimely killing of our father. Dad (Mark) was a very caring and loving man. He had a strong, solid love for God as well as his two sons, Josh and Chad, and his grandson Liam. We were very shocked to hear about the entire situation and are honestly still in shock. We’re still unsure about what happened leading up to my father’s death, but we have faith in the Police Department to do their job and find whoever is responsible and bring them to justice. At this time we want to thank everyone for their kind words and encouragement. If anyone is able to help donate towards our fathers funeral costs please go to http://www.gofundme.com/bmeu54. We greatly appreciate any and all that we receive.
