Ohio unemployment rate unchanged at 5.5 percent

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The unemployment rate in Ohio for June remained unchanged at 5.5 percent, staying at the lowest level since before the Great Recession.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Friday on the seasonally adjusted rate for June, the same as May and down from 5.7 percent in April and 6.1 percent in March.

The state's rate for June remained below the national rate of 6.1 percent, which was down from 6.3 percent in April and May.

Ohio's nonfarm employment increased 12,700 over the month, from 5.29 million in May to 5.3 million in June.

The state says Ohio gained jobs in goods-producing industries, manufacturing and mining and logging, surpassing losses in construction.
