Chevy Cruze takes double digit sales dip for second month in a row

DETROIT -

Although General Motors is reporting the best July sales figures in seven years, sales of the Lordstown made Chevy Cruze took a double digit drop for the second month in a row.

General Motors released figures on Friday saying that sales of the fuel efficient car in July dropped nearly 18% from the same month one year ago.

Cruze sales this past June were down nearly 21% from the same period in 2013.

Sales of the Cruze also dropped from 26,008 models in June, to 20,926 in July; a dip of 20 percent over the month.

Year to date, the Cruze is still ahead of sales figures for the same period last year, and is General Motors best selling passenger car this year.

GM sales overall rose 9.4 percent last month, making it the best July for the automaker since 2007.

GM says the increase was spurred by a double digit sales hike of crossovers and trucks, which include pickups, vans and SUVs.
