Beginning with the new school year, Ohio schools will no longer have a set number of snow days.

Under a new rule, school schedules will be based on minimum hours of instruction, instead of minimum days.

Austintown superintendent Vince Colaluca says schools will still be closed in the event of severe cold or heavy snow, but the change will revise the formula for any make-up days.

“What it will do at the end of the year, if we have accumulated hours and enough hours by what the state asks us to have per grade level, then we won't have to make up those days. So that's something we'll look at.” Colaluca said.

Teachers and non-certified school employees would remain limited to the number of calamity days in their contracts and could face make-up time.
