YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - He's been on the job for six weeks, but Jim Tressel was officially installed as the ninth President of Youngstown State University before a large crowd at Beeghly Center on Monday.

Before the packed house, and with his wife and family looking on, Jim Tressel stepped up to take the oath of the President of YSU, and receives a standing ovation as he accepts the presidential medallion.

The keynote speaker for the event is Ohio Governor John Kasich who said he believes Tressel has the vision for a bright future for Youngstown State.

"This can be a great moment, because we've got somebody back here who's a doer, who has integrity, who has energy, who has vision, who understands teamwork" Kasich said.

Teamwork and collaboration was a theme through out Tressel's presidential address. He said the university and community need to design a plan and a blueprint for increasing our excellence.

"It can't be just someone handing it to us, it's got to be everyone of us, our community's got to be involved our board's got to be involved, our faculty, our staff ,our students" Tressel told the crowd.

The many students in attendance heard student trustee Eric Shehadi say they can rest assured that President Tressel is committed to them. "There's no doubt that increasing our success is one of the priorities of his presidency" Said Shehadi.

Tressel said his greatest role models were his parents, for the values and qualities that they taught their children. "That leadership is not a position that you hold, but it's actions that you take to serve others" Tressel said. And the Governor says Tressel is the man who can spark some excitement.

"And now we've got a jolt, we've got energy, we've got the leadership and the vision we need" Kasich said.

Classes begin Wednesday morning at YSU and Tressel says he is anxious to get to work.
