Indictment charges former Niles employee with added theft

Posted: Updated:
NILES, Ohio -

A former Niles employee was handed a superseding indictment accusing her of embezzling more money than originally thought.

61 year old Phyllis Wilson was initially charged with felony theft in an office. The initial indictment claims Wilson embezzled $71,000 from January 2012 through June 2013.

The newest indictment cites that Wilson stole an estimated $142,272 from the city of Niles from January 2009 through June 2013.

A routine audit discovered missing deposits between 2012 and 2013. Further investigation led to further charges.

Investigators say Wilson was a treasury clerk for the city, until retiring in the summer of 2013.

Wilson has plead not guilty to the charges of felony theft.
