Latest ISIS video sparks reaction from Valley Congressmen

Posted: Updated:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Local Congressmen responded to the latest video released by the Islamist State group.

In the most recent video ISIS said it has beheaded another American journalist in retribution for continued U.S. airstrikes in Iraq.

Journalist Steven Sotloff, 31-years old, was murdered on camera.

The militant in the video declared "I'm back, Obama."

Both Valley Congressmen Tim Ryan and Bill Johnson say ISIS is a major threat to the civilized world and needs to be dealt with before they attack America inside its borders.

"They are self funded. They are selling oil on the black market. They have well over a billion dollars now in their coffer. They have modern technology. And what's worse yet is that they have western passports," said Johnson

Congressman Ryan expressed the need for international cooperation and continued aid.

"I'm not in support of sending any of our troops there, other than special forces or a little air support for the kurds and others on the ground who really need the push back against these groups. I think there are things we can do in an international way in beefing up the kurds, making sure they have arms and artillary they need" said Congressman Tim Ryan.

A special visit from President Trump attracted thousands to downtown Youngstown Tuesday, though not as many as initially expected. Early estimates based on online reservations through the Trump campaign projected nearly 20,000 people headed to the city, but realistically, fewer than 10,000 filled the Covelli Centre and its outdoor overflow viewing area. Despite the increase in traffic and crowds downtown, Youngstown Police said there were no major issues throughout the day.  S...More >>
