Mooney's alumni association honored 1969 graduate, Mary Lou Rogers and 1978 graduate, Attorney Steven Yuhas with the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Awards Wednesday morning.

The award honors is given to those who demonstrate a concern for Mooney's motto of sanctity, scholarship and discipline.

"You have to have a long career committed to Cardinal Mooney in a very good way, to being a good Catholic, to being a good citizen, to being committed to Catholic education, to being committed to Cardinal Mooney High School. And, there's a recommendation process and a committee gets together and decided who the best choices are for the year," said Mike Latessa, with the Cardinal Mooney High School Alumni Association.

Rogers taught for the diocese of Youngstown for almost 30 years.  She earned her Bachelor's degree in Education from Youngstown State University in 1973 and completed a Master's degree in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University of New Orleans in 2009.

In 2010, the Diocese of Youngstown recognized her as a distinguished teacher by awarding her the prestigious "Golden Apple Award."

Rogers is the mother of two sons; Jordan and Justin, both graduates of Cardinal Mooney High School and a member of St. Columba Parish.

Attorney Steven Yuhas received his undergraduate degree in criminal justice from the University of Dayton in 1982 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law three years later. He has practiced law for 29 years, and is currently associated with the firm of Thorson, Switala, Mondock & Snead.

Yuhas has served on the St. Albert The Great Parish Council for numerous years and was Parish Council president in 2008. Despite his busy legal practice, he has found time to make nearly a dozen mission trips both nationally and internationally.

Yuhas and his wife Maureen are the parents of two children, Daniel and Katy, who both attend the University of Dayton. The family resides in suburban Dayton, Ohio.

This is the nineteenth year that the Distinguished Alumni Awards have been presented by the Alumni Association.
