Ex-prosecutor, alum becomes Grove City College president

Posted: Updated:
GROVE CITY, Pa. (AP) - A former federal prosecutor and 1980 graduate has become the ninth president of Grove City College in western Pennsylvania.

Paul McNulty was installed as president Monday at the private, Christian liberal arts college about 55 miles north of Pittsburgh.

He replaces Richard Jewell, a Pittsburgh businessman and 1967 graduate of the school who retired at the end of the 2013-14 academic year after becoming president in 2003.

McNulty prosecuted terrorists and others under former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Ashcroft spoke at McNulty's installation ceremony.

The school about increased its enrollment about 10 percent under Jewell and now has about 2,500 full-time students.

McNulty was picked to replace Jewell in May. He's the fourth alumnus to serve as the school's president.
