Sheriff Thomas Altiere says the employee in question, James Millik, is on unpaid administrative leave pending an arbitration meeting.

The sheriff's office accuses the corrections officer of lying during an investigation into the jail hostage situation in April of 2014.

When questioned about the incident, the sheriffs office says Millik indicated he only had one intercom communication with the inmates.

But county sheriff investigators say Millik was working the control pod that night and had three intercom communications with the inmates prior to the hostage situation. Millik was required to undergo a polygraph test on June 10, 2014.

The test conductor accused Millik of trying to cheat the test. The test conductor found Millik was being deceptive and was discharged for being untruthful during the investigation on June 21, 2014.

Millik claims he was wrongfully discharged.

Sheriff Altiere says Millik was dismissed from his duties for just cause. An arbitration hearing date has not been scheduled.
