Vienna residents await more oil spill test results

VIENNA TWP., Ohio - Residents in Vienna are still waiting to find out what was in the oil waste recently found in their ponds and wetlands.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has been testing samples of the waste that were believed to have been released from a nearby injection well company, Kleese Development Associates.
ODNR has not released the findings of the samples, or any information as to what the waste may have contained, however they have said they believe that water is responsible for killing fish and wildlife in the nearby stream.
However, residents may feel safer knowing results on several wells have been released.
The Ohio EPA says tests from 2 separate labs, conducted on water taken from from 6 homes closest to the spill, show no petroleum contaminants got into nearby wells.
The Trumbull Health Department says there is no need to test homes 7 miles away from the spill since contaminants were not in the water of the homes closest to the spill.
However, according to a County Health Commissioner, several more wells be tested, to ensure the safety of Vienna's water.
"Six more were picked based upon the direction of flow, the geology, and that sort of thing of the spill, and those will be tested and more decisions will be made about either more testing or follow up testing of the wells that have already have been tested," said Commissioner James Enyeart.
Enyeart tells 21 News that Governor Kasich has also been involved in this directly, adding that all resources The Health Department needs have been offered.
