The Ohio Department of Natural Resources euthanized a large group of geese at Mosquito Lake State Park.

ODNR say that the group of 160 Canadian geese were put down because they had become aggressive.

According to ODNR's John Windau, this aggression, often towards humans, was caused by people feeding them.

The geese were taken from Mosquito Lake's marina and beach areas where they were normally fed.

ODNR normally monitors migratory patterns of the geese by placing bands on them.

The department says euthanization is not a common practice, but it was necessary there because all other measures had failed.

The decision to reduce goose population occurs a year after Mill Creek Park officials had 238 geese were euthanized with carbon dioxide gas by ODNR.
