Youngstown police say West Side woman was repeatedly stabbed

Posted: Updated:

Police say 55-year old Tina Jarrell was stabbed several times during an attack in her West Side home Tuesday night.

A well maintained two-story home on Wellington Street was the scene of the crime. 62-year old Robert Jarrell said when he returned home around 11:30 p.m he noticed his garage door was open and his car was gone.

He guessed that his wife Tina may have run out to the store. But inside, he discovered his wife on the living room floor covered with blood. His phone is out of service so he ran to a neighbors house and he called 9-1-1.

This is a portion of that phone call;

Dispatcher: "What do you think happened?  Caller: "Her head is bashed in and her car is gone."

Police put out an alert for the victim's car.

A black, 20-11 Ford Taurus, with a warning to consider the occupant armed and dangerous.

According to Youngstown police, the car and a person driving the vehicle was located in Pittsburgh. Youngstown detectives said they would question the driver, whose name has not been released.

Mr. Jarrell said he believes his wife was trying to get away from her attacker because her hair was pulled out and there was a large gash in the back of her head.

Jarrell says he has no idea who would do such a thing, that his wife was a stay at home housewife.

"She doesn't hang with anybody except the neighbors around here," said Jarrell.

Mary Ann Bond is one of those neighbors. "She was a nice person, she used to sit on the porch with her dog, she talked to everybody she was just a pleasant lady," Bond said.

Jarrell and the neighbors say it's a shock for this to happen on their quiet street.

"We've never had any kind of trouble like this out here," said Jarrell.   And Bond said,

"I just can't get over it, its incredible, it really is just terrible,".

The coroner will rule on the cause of death.
