Officials investigate pipe bomb explosion in Lowellville

LOWELLVILLE, Ohio - Police in Lowellville are investigating an explosion that left several homes and vehicles damaged Saturday night.
A Lieutenant with the Lowellville Fire Department told 21 News that sometime before midnight emergency crews responded to reports of an explosion near McGill and Grant Streets.
After an initial investigation crews discovered that someone in the area had set off a pipe bomb.
Debris from the explosion broke several windows in nearby homes and punched holes in two nearby vehicles.
The Youngstown Bomb Squad, as well as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, were called out to investigate the scene and assess whether there may have been additional devices.
According to authorities the incident is still under investigation.
Officials have not confirmed whether anyone was injured in the blast, if the identity of the bomb detonator is known, or if there will be charges filed in connection to the bombing.
