U.S. Marshals arrest Boardman fugitive

WARREN, Ohio - Police in the Valley are no longer looking for a Boardman man who was just released from jail after serving time for branding the skin of a Struthers teen.
Thirty-four-year-old Andrew Kocak Jr., who was released from jail last Friday, was the subject of an area-wide law enforcement alert until Wednesday afternoon when U.S. Marshals arrested him at an apartment building on the 1300 block of Roberts Avenue NW, in Warren.
Authorities also tell 21 News that they recovered his mother's Jeep and a television that Kocak allegedly took from the Boardman home of his parents Wednesday morning.
Officers say they took Kocak to a hospital for treatment because they believe he swallowed a gram of heroin during the arrest.
According to the alert broadcast by local police agencies, Kocak allegedly had threatened to kill his family and himself.
Family members told police that they believe Kocak may attempt to harm any police officer that tries to come in contact with him.
Kocak was sentenced to three years in prison last November after pleading guilty to endangering children, corrupting another with drugs, felonious assault, and two counts of intimidation.
Investigators say Kocak used a heated snuff can and a martial arts throwing star to repeatedly brand 17-year-old Derrick Reber on the thigh at a Struthers home last year.
Kocak applied for early judicial release after serving the first six months of his sentence.
Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas Judge Lou D'Apolito agreed to release Kocak on Friday after learning that he completed a number of addiction and behavior management programs while incarcerated.
Kocak was subject to terms of parole set by Judge D'Apolito when he fled.
