Mill Creek Park officials encouraged by bacteria test results

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Mill Creek Park officials are encouraged by recent test results showing E.coli levels within Lake Newport back within acceptable levels.
The park closed its three lakes last month due to high bacteria levels.
The Mahoning County District Board of Health is testing the water on a weekly basis for up to 12 weeks to determine a baseline.
Park director Aaron Young tells 21 News that he is undecided on whether he will have the District Board of Health test for the entire 12 week span. He says as additional data is collected, the park may consider reopening the lakes for recreation, but he says it will ultimately depend on the weather.
Officials would like to see what E.coli levels are within the Lake Newport after a rain event, but have been unable to test that scenario because of the dry weather.
