Mahoning Commissioner defends campaign contribution

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Mahoning County Commissioner Carol Rimedio-Reghetti is reacting to a report that raised questions about a donation she received from businessman Bruce Zoldan during her 2010 election campaign.
A newly obtained affidavit states that during grand jury testimony, Zoldan stated that businessman Anthony Cafaro had offered to share in the donation Zoldan had made to Rimedio-Reghetti.
When contacted, Zoldan stated that he declined the offer and told Cafaro that if he also wanted to support Rimedio-Reghetti he could make his own donation. Zoldan said there was nothing illegal or underhanded, that he always follows the rules.
Commissioner Rimedo-Righetti agreed with Zoldan's statement.
"He wrote me a check and was very good to me and all he wanted was good government and that's what we're doing, and I take offense that it's constantly going after people who have contributed to my campaign that's not fair either, we've done everthing on the up and up," the Commissioner said.
A check of the campaign finance reports found two checks from Zoldan totalling $13,000 in 2010.
