Rep. Lepore-Hagan calls for resignation of Ohio School Superintendent

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A Valley lawmaker is calling for the resignation of the Ohio Superintendent of Schools following revealations that negative information was not included in evaluations of charter schools.
State Representative Michele Lepore-Hagan of Youngstown issued a statement on Friday in response to public records released by the Ohio Department of Education relating to the charter school data scrubbing conducted by former School Choice Director David Hansen.
The Ohio Department of Education have released thousands of documents requested by news organizations investigating Hansen's decision to omit failing grades from the evaluations of online and dropout recovery schools so they would't detract from the successes of the schools.
Hansen, who is the husband of Governor John Kasich's campaign manager, has since resigned.
Rep. Lepore-Hagan issued a statement on Friday saying that Ross and others at the Ohio Department of Education employed what she called, “a deliberate strategy to pre-emptively cover their tracks by avoiding creating any public records.”
She also criticized Superintendent Ross over his handling of the meetings that led to the creation of House Bill 70, which will allow for the appointment of a Cheif Executive Officer that will have far-ranging authority to make changes in Youngstown's failing public schools.
“Superintendent Ross has already demonstrated his tenuous relationship with the truth, repeatedly lying about his direct involvement in the secret meetings to craft the state takeover of the Youngstown City Schools,”said Lepore-Hagan.
