Hearing canceled on substitute horse at Hollywood Gaming

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Racing Commission has canceled Friday's hearing to determine how the wrong horse won a race at the Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course.
The commission had scheduled a hearing to be held at Hollywood Gaming where earlier this month, a horse that won a race was not the horse that had been entered to run.
The winner was a gelding (a castrated male horse) running against a field of female horses, or fillies.
According to the racing commission, the discovery that the winning horse wasn't the one entered into the race was made during standard drug testing following the race when an identifying tattoo was inspected.
The tattoos are supposed to be checked before the race, and the commission is trying to find out what went wrong.
According to the racing commission, Friday's so-called Steward hearing was called off after horse identifier, Thomas M. Clark, trainer Shane Spiess, groom Michael Micallef and substitute trainer Francisco C. Avina waived their right to the hearing.
The Stewards will consider information gathered by the racing commission and decide if it is appropriate to issue findings in the matter.
Those involved would have 48 hours to appeal any finding, which would result in an administrative hearing.
The Racing Commission's Bill Crawford tells 21 News that the horse was disqualified and the winning purse has been revoked.
