WARREN, Ohio - An 8-year-old Warren boy was taken to the hospital after a family bulldog bit him several times on Tuesday.

According to a police report, Dale Boyers was lying on the floor, petting the dog just before 2 a.m. when the 160 pound dog attacked him.

When officers arrived, the boy's aunt, Sandi Boyers, was holding his face and neck, which were bleeding from the attack.

Boyers' cousin, Michele Slater, said she heard what was happening and ran into the room to pull the dog off. She placed the dog in a bedroom and called 911.

Boyers told officers he had never been attacked by the family dog before, but his aunt said the dog bit her other nephew a month earlier.

Medics on scene began treating Boyers. He had several wounds to his cheeks, lip, shoulder and neck. According the report, Boyers suffered a deep gash from one side of his neck to the other.

Boyers was taken to St. Joseph Hospital and will likely be transferred to Akron Children's Hospital for additional treatment.

Sandi Boyers was advised to take the dog's shot record to the hospital and keep it for the Warren City Dog Warden.

The family was advised to keep the dog quartantined for at least 10 days.

The incident will be forwarded to Trumbull County Children Services Board.

No charges have been filed.
