BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Ohio -

More than 1,100 people were without power Thursday morning after a car hit a pole along State Route 165 in Beaver Township, closing the road for five hours.

The outage effected homes and businesses in Beaver and Green Townships.  South Range schools closed for the day because of the outage.

FirstEnergy reported that by 11 a.m. power had been restored.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the accident happened at 5:40 am on West South Range Road, Route 165, near Detwiler Road.

Troopers say the driver struck a pole after losing control of the car. The driver of the car was taken to a local hospital. Troopers did not know the extent of injuries.

The intersection was closed until 11 a.m. while crews from Ohio Edison worked to repair the utility pole.
