Sebring updates water distribution hours

SEBRING, Ohio -

Sebring Officials announced on Friday the latest operating hours for bottled water distribution.

The 8,100 customers of the water system in Sebring, Beloit and Maple Ridge were informed two weeks ago that water samples gathered from seven homes tested for higher than acceptable levels of lead.

An advisory went out recommending that children 6 and younger and pregnant women refrain from drinking the water.

Since that time, most homes that have been tested in Sebring are below the federal allowable limit. The Ohio EPA said on Thursday that of the 54 water samples collected from 53 homes, 54 samples tested below the federal allowable level.

However, water is still being offered to those homes that test above the federal allowable level.

Water is being distributed from the Sebring Community Center at 305 W. Texas Ave.

Hours are:

  • Friday, 5-7 a.m. until noon
  • Saturday, 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
  • Sunday, closed
  • Monday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday, 7 a.m. until noon
  • Thursday, closed
  • Feb. 12, 7 a.m. until noon
  • Feb. 13 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
  • Feb. 14, closed

The notice said that further distribution dates and hours will be determined later.

Because there is a limited supply of bottled water, each qualifying person in a household will receive the equivalent of one gallon, per person, per day. No consumer will receive a supply exceeding six days per distribution.

To receive bottled water, residents and businesses must be able to show proof that they are current customers of Sebring Water.

However, households and businesses that test OK for water quality are ineligible.

Those wishing to have their water tested free of charge may obtain sample bottles along with instructions on how to properly collect the water.

Residents may pick up bottles at the Village of Sebring Municipal Building, 135 East Ohio Ave., Sebring, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The samples must then be dropped off at the Municipal Building on Mondays or Wednesdays no later than 10 a.m.

Water testing bottles are available until further notice.

Lead results will be provided to the residents via email. A paper copy will also be provided to the Village. Residents without an email address may obtain a paper copy at the Municipal Building.
