EAST PALESTINE, Ohio - Crews from FirstEnergy continue working to restore electricity to hundreds of homes and businesses still without power in Columbiana County.

More than 5,500 homes and businesses were in the dark early Tuesday. By 2.pm. Wednesday, there were still 77 customers without power.

A spokesperson for FirstEnergy says trees and limbs have fallen on individual power lines connecting homes, so it may not be until Wednesday until all power is restored.

The utility's website estimates that some could be without electricity until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

And if you didn't lose your electricity, you might have lost your phone or cable lines.

"The phone line for the internet was snapped. I came out here and re-ran it and spliced it together. An hour later a semi-truck came through and torn everything off the house," said Lee Givens of East Palestine.

Accumulation averaged about 8-10 inches throughout the county. Road crews worked around the clock to try and clear all the roads. No major accidents were reported, but we were told quite a few cars found ended up getting stuck or in ditches.

Larisa Trosky of East Palestine, says, "When we first got up they were pretty covered, they were crappy, but we took a little ride, got stuck a little bit, but we were good."

Many people just stayed home and got busy shoveling, mainly because they weren't able to get out of their driveways if they didn't.

It was a great day to be a kid, though. Most spent the day sledding or building the biggest snowman they could. For many, it was the first snow day of the year, and they made the best of it.
