What began as police stopping a Warren man for riding his bicycle on the wrong side of the road ended with him being tased, jailed and charged with a felony.

Police stopped Gabriel Talanca Sunday afternoon on Summit Street to ask him to use the sidewalk, and police say the 21-year-old became upset and agitated.

The officer said he noticed Talanca sweating heavily on what he called a breezy and cool day. Reports say the man attempted to walk away on his bike.

When police found the East Avenue man had a warrant for his arrest, the officer requested backup.

The officer asked Talanca if he had anything illegal on him. Talanca said no, and the officer asked him to take off his backpack and set down his bike.

Police say they grabbed Talanca's hands and he started to pull away.

Officers said they tried to control Talanca, but he attempted to grab his bicycle and flee. Police told Talanca he was under arrest and to put his hands behind his back, but Talanca continued to pull away, according to officers.

Officers brought Talanca to the ground, and they say he still refused to put his hands behind his back.

Reports say the officers warned Talanca that if he did not cooperate he would be tased. Officers asked Talanca three more times to put his hands behind his back before using their Taser to stun him in his right shoulder blade.

After being tased once, Talanca still tried to push himself off the ground, so officers tased him again in the center of his back before being able to handcuff him.

Officers opened Talanca's backpack and found three large mason jars of marijuana, two pill containers with unknown substances, a marijuana grinder, seven separate rolling papers, one cigarette roller, a butane torch, two green Crown Royal bags and $244.

Police also found seven ibuprofen pills and four Alprazolam pills. The U.S. National Library of Medicine says Alprazolam is an anxiety medicine; a common brand of Alprazolam is Xanax. The two pill containers were sent for testing.

Talanca was arrested on two existing warrants and was also charged with resisting arrest, drug paraphernalia, drug trafficking and possession of drugs.

He was taken to the Trumbull County Jail and was scheduled for an arraignment in Warren Municipal Court on Monday.
